Definition of Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Psychotherapeutic Counselling is a form of counselling in depth which adopts a relational - developmental focus with the goal of fostering  the client's personal growth and development, in the context of their life and current circumstances.

Psychotherapeutic counselling includes:

  • The Psychotherapeutic Counsellors effective use of self
  • Competence in the application of a range of strategic interventions
  • Competence in assessment, diagnosis
  • An in depth understanding of the efficacy of the psychotherapeutic relationship 
  •  Competence in a range of further areas of  knowledge and skill required to facilitate the client's realisation of their existential potential
  • Competence in relations with  health care professionals
  • A commitment to continued professional development 

Psychotherapeutic Counselling may be applied in the following modalities of
  • Individual work with adults
  • Children and young people
  • Group work
  • Couples work
